MS4 – Stormwater Inspections in Franklin Township

Notice to Franklin Township Property Owners

Outfall Structure

During the months of March and April the Township Engineer’s personnel (from LTL Consultants) will be inspecting the Township’s stormwater collection system in the western half of the Township.  Inspections of the collection system are performed at the point where the system discharges to a stream or a swale that discharges to a stream.   These inspections are referred to as ‘Outfall Screenings’ and are required in accordance with Franklin Township’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System Permit (referred to as MS4).  The purpose of the Outfall Screenings is to identify any illicit stormwater discharges.  If an illicit discharge is identified, a water sampling is taken and tested at a laboratory to identify the pollutants. Once identified, additional investigation is performed to identify the source of the pollutants.

For the safety of our residents and the personnel performing the Outfall Screenings, personnel will be wearing yellow/orange safety vests, will be carrying identification and as a courtesy will knock on doors to let the property owner, he/she is performing the outfall screening.  However, if there is no response at the door, the Outfall Screening will still be carried out.  The Township appreciates your cooperation in this matter.

To determine if an MS4 Outfall is located on your property, please refer to the maps below and find your property.  An Outfall is represented by a red triangle and number.
