What is a Comprehensive Plan?

It is a policy plan that outlines the Township’s future vision and how to achieve that vision through planning priorities and strategies. Existing conditions are considered, planning goals are outlined, and implementation strategies are developed. It is enabled by state law, which says the plan is to be reviewed every decade and is to examine planning topics such as land use, housing, development and preservation, agriculture, historic and natural resource protection, and infrastructure. Through planning, valued features can be retained and change guided. This plan is being completed to guide Township planning for the next 10 years.
This plan will be developed over the next year through a public process, guided by a Task Force of residents. The goal is to develop a plan that is actionable and responsive to community priorities, while still being achievable within the framework of municipal planning. The overall planning process involves:
