Recycle Asphalt Shingles
Residents and small jobbers, who are replacing asphalt shingles and would
normally dispose of them at the Chester County Solid Waste Authority
Lanchester Landfill, can now save money and recycle those asphalt shingles
at the same time. Residents may unload their clean old asphalt shingles at
the small load facility dropoff for a reduced fee of $35 a ton. No
wood, trash or plastic will be accepted with the reduce fee. However, tar
paper and nails may be included. For more information,
please call
Chester County Solid Waste Authority at 610-273-3771.

When in Doubt, Throw It Out!
Properly prepared and collected recyclables are valued commodities sold on a
global market. When too many non-recyclables (trash) are mixed in with the
recyclables it all becomes trash, is too costly to separate, and
requires disposal at a landfill. Don't be tempted to put items into
bins that do not belong.
Some of the items that contaminate recyclables
include scrap metal, scrap wood, plastic bags, and children's toys. Again, please
do not put them in recycling bins.
Curbside programs in our area allow the recycling of mixed paper, flattened
corrugated cardboard cut down to 18" x 24", glass bottles and jars,
steel and aluminum cans, and plastic bottles
with #1 and #2 in a recycling symbol. For more information, see
When in Doubt, Throw It Out!
